Turkwel dam in West Pokot county have served as a means of life by its waters which helps the residents.
Most of the residents source of living have been agriculture and fish harvesting.
Some of them uses the waters in domestic purposes like, washing, cooking and serving their domestic animals.
Struggles for getting water from the dam was experienced in April 2021 whereby the water levels started dropping by meters day in day out.
The results have been due to scorching sun that enables the waters to evaporate in the sky.
Due to the low levels of waters, the fishermen have been struggling in getting fish from the dam so as to be able to cash in some coins for survival.
They have therefore moved to a point of fishing all the younger fish in the dam which is now causing more troubles of getting source of fish.
Mr. Geofry Lipale the leader of the concerned team have said that the county is putting more measures in securing the living young fish from the hands of the thirsty and energetic fishermen who only think for themselves.
This will help the remaining young fish to grow and reproduce in future.
