His taste for politics grew day by day as he vied the presidential seat in the year 2006 under United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) but emerged third with 25% of the votes. He vied again in the year 2008 under United Party for National Development (UPND) and emerged third with 19% of the votes.
He did not lost hopes but vied for presidency in 2011 of which his UPND party collapsed before elections. In 2015 Hichilema lost the presidential seat by 1.67% to the ruling party’s candidate. The same happened in the year 2016 as he lost the presidential seat again for the fifth time.

Hichilema is among the Adventist leaders in Zambia who showed his passion for presidency as God’s time is ever the best. The elections were done on 12th August 2021 and the result were out by Monday 16th August 2021.
He is now the officially announced Zambian President taking over from Honourable Lungu.
